Common Fillers and Their Effect on PTFE
- Glass : The most common filler, minor effect on electrical properties, increased abrasion on mating metal surfaces.
- Carbon : Low abrasion and wear, good deformation and extrusion resistance.
- Graphite :Non-abrasive, low friction, minor effect on deformation properties.
- MoS2 : Lowers break-in wear and starting friction.
- Bronze : Very high wear resistance and load bearing capability. Poor chemical resistance.
- Stainless Steel : High wear resistance and load bearing capability. Wider chemical resistance than bronze.
- PPS : Low wear and abrasion, excellent deformation and extrusion resistance. Large reduction in tensile and elongation values.
- CaF2 : Hydrofuoric acid service.
- The most common filler, minor effect on electrical properties, increased abrasion on mating metal surfaces.
